Early last year I was asked to film a ‘shoe diary’ video for Clarks, wearing a pair of their Lindley Charm, Italian leather boots. It was a fun day and so I was excited to receive a call a couple of months later asking if I would attend a casting for the Spring / Summer 2015 campaign. Clarks were looking for a number of guys and girls who were into fashion and had interesting careers to star in their new campaign to be shot by the brilliant photographer, Bill Gentle. I went along on a sunny Friday afternoon in a (very) bright H&M pink and red shift dress that I found in a charity shop teamed with a new, favourite pair of pastel green heeled sandals from Author that I’d purchased in preparation for an up-and-coming wedding in Italy. I met the Clarks team and Bill, showed them some pictures of my patisserie and after giving some brief details on camera, I was out the door and on my way to the countryside for the weekend – casting forgotten.
Early the next week I was called back in and asked to bring some of my outfits and tried on some of the new Clark shoes., they photographed me again and a couple of days later I was chuffed to find out I had been chosen for the campaign. There was going to be two different outfits and shots, one of which involved a mammoth baking session the few days before as my patisserie was to be in the picture too. Shoot day came and armed with various tarts, pies and macaron towers I headed early morning to the location in Hackney. After being pimped and preened in hair and make-up and having donned the first outfit, we headed to Hackney Pearl cafe to shoot the first image. The rest of the day involved whizzing around looking for locations to shoot whilst being retouched in the back of a van and watching the video crew shoot some great stop-motion footage of my food for the videos that accompany the images.
I needn’t have worried about wastage, once we were officially wrapped my bakes were demolished in considerably less time than they had taken to put together! There were happy smiles all round as the crew filled boxes to take with them and exhausted but having had a great day I headed home.
Four months later the first images were released and have since been spotted in Clarks shop windows by friends all over the world from Hackney to Hong Kong 🙂
